The Air & Water Show is my favorite weekend in Chicago every year. I don’t know anything about airplanes and jets, but I’m obsessed with watching them. I’m like a little kid all over again… only I can drink.

This year I finally get to watch the Air & Water Show from Lake Michigan, which probably won’t be good for my neck but will be great for my social life. I’ve been invited aboard the infamous Flying Lady which will be packed with bottles and models. Not a bad place to watch some planes fly by.

The party is sponsored by Belvedere, so I tested a few different recipes using their vodka to see which would be the perfect choice for consuming aboard the S.S. Ridiculously Good Looking. Had I been smarter, the answer would have been clear from the get go – The Zephyr cocktail. What could be better than a cocktail with the same name as a plane?

Even before I realized the obvious tie-in to the Air & Water Show, I had decided the Zephyr cocktail was the best of the best of the best. It’s easy to make, refreshing as the breeze after which it’s probably named, and tastes like the first time you saw a monkey petting a puppy.

Zephyr

1.5 oz Belvedere Vodka
1 oz Pink Grapefruit Juice
1/2 oz Fresh Lemon Juice
1/2 oz Orgeat
Fever Tree Tonic

Combine all ingredients except tonic and shake with ice. Strain into a highball glass over fresh ice. Top with Fever Tree Tonic. Garnish with a wedge of pink grapefruit.

*Orgeat is almond-flavored syrup that you can find in most decent liquor stores. Here’s how to pronounce it.
