Epicurious has done an amazing job with their “Price Points” series in which experts try to guess which of two items is expensive and which is cheap. The latest episode, “Beer Expert Guesses Cheap vs Expensive Beer,” challenges Garrett Oliver, Brewmaster of Brooklyn Brewery, to identify which beer is more expensive across an array of beer styles.
If you’re here to watch an expert make a fool of himself, move along. Likewise, you can also pay your tab if here to see a beer snob mock garbage pail beers. It shouldn’t come as a surprise given that Garrett Oliver, the editor-in-chief of The Oxford Companion to Beer can identify cheap vs expensive beer. What’s impressive though is that instead of just touting the best characteristics of the more expensive options, Oliver drops a bushel of knowledge about beer. He shares what you should expect from and look for in different styles as well as a bit of history.
It’s a long video, but Garrett Oliver is about as engaging as it gets. The internet needs more from beer ambassadors like him.
