Winter is finally upon us, which means it’s time to drink enough that we can pretend the outside world isn’t miserable for the next four months. I’m not suggesting you attempt to blackout the next 120 days; that’s ridiculous. What I’m saying is that you can drink in such a way that you start to believe you’re sitting under the hot sun somewhere in Mexico. It’s like Corona’s “Find Your Beach” ads, only it tastes significantly better.
The Blackberry Mint Margarita is absolutely up to the challenge. It’s not something you’ll get at your local joint either, so it’s perfect for a night when you refuse to leave the house. Mix a few of these, throw on that Spring Break Mixtape you foolishly bought at the airport on your way home, and get ready to party.
Luckily this party isn’t all that tough to make. You don’t even need Cointreau or Grand Marnier, just Olmeca Altos tequila. Or any tequila really, but Altos stuff is tastes like agavegasm. Add limes, sugar, blackberries & mint, and you’re basically done. A shaker would help too, ideally one shaped like a penguin.
- 1.5 oz tequila
- 1 oz fresh lime juice
- 1 oz simple syrup
- 8 blackberries
- 10 fresh mint leaves
- Muddle 6 blackberries and mint with simple syrup in shaker.
- Add tequila, lime, and fill 2/3 with ice.
- Strain into glass.
- Garnish with final two blackberries.
I originally posted the Blackberry Mint Margarita way back in the day on Guyism. I just made them again last weekend, and the recipe definitely stands up. It’s glorious. I even made frozen margaritas for the others even though I’m highly opposed to them.
