The best bartender in the world just left the best housekeeping tip in the world. Blah blah blah restore your faith in humanity or some clickbait shit like that.
Charles Joly is a James Beard Award winner, Diageo World Class Bartender of the Year, and American Bartender of the Year. He’s also the World Class Housekeeping Tipper of the Year.
After spending New Years in Maui bartending for a wedding (presumably Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s vow renewal), Joly left something better than just a 20-spot on the dresser. He left a mix-your-own Manhattan bar as a tip, complete with Bulleit Rye, Dolin vermouth, a bottle of Angostura bitters, and a hand-written cocktail recipe.
For those of you who only think about money, that’s $55 worth of intoxicating happiness. It’s the gesture that really makes it awesome though. After dealing with the holiday rush for the last two weeks, I’m sure the staff was in desperate need of a few drinks! Just don’t try to steal this move. It works because Joly is the best bartender in the galaxy. You doing it would be like me leaving a short story as a tip because I heard Ernest Hemingway did it once.
If you’re jealous of the housekeeping department at a Hawaiian hotel, A) re-evaluate your life, B) buy a bottle of Crafthouse Cocktails. It’s Joly’s brand, so that’s sort of like him giving you booze.
