Bacon and Beer Classic brings together Earth’s two most valuable resources

bacon and beer classic chicago soldier fieldBacon and beer go together like… well, beer and bacon. There really isn’t a combination that’s even close as good as the Bacon and Beer Classic, and I’m told my “lamb and tuna fish” reference from Big Daddy is slightly outdated.

The Bacon and Beer Classic brings together your two favorite foodstuffs for an epic event at Soldier Field on Saturday, October 1st. This isn’t just another festival though, so don’t expect a run of the mill afternoon.

Some of Chicago’s finest chefs will showcase bacon creations, and we’re not talking a BLT or a bacon-wrapped date. They invest time and energy into crafting creative and delicious dishes. Some of the offerings expected are:

  • Carmel Beer Gelato, Bacon Waffle Cone
  • Bacon Caramel Pork Belly Bahn Mi
  • Happy Hour on a Stick
  • Bacon Sausage Infused w/ Craft Beer
  • Beer & Bacon Bisque
  • Bacon Pot Sticker w/ Soy Beer Glaze
  • Moose Balls Donuts
  • Bacon Mac & Cheese Waffles

Which would you want, a bacon waffle cone or a bacon waffle? Who cares? Have both! I don’t even know what Happy Hour on a Stick is, but you can be damn sure I’m going to find out. I’m also intrigued by the seemingly glorious use of beer in the recipes.

For those of you who like to drink out of glasses instead of sausages, there will be 80+ beers being poured to help wash down all that swine dining. Many of Chicago’s favorite breweries will be on hand in addition to breweries from across the country. You can likely find me hanging out by Pipeworks, trying to convince them to make a Boozist vs. Unicorn beer that’s strategically designed for consumption during 80s Power Hour mixes.

The Bacon and Beer Classic isn’t just about chef’s morsels and 3oz pours from craft breweries. It’s also about being the best bacon consumer you can be. Listen to music and let your stomach recover while playing a game of giant Jenga. Earn that 30th slice of bacon by dominating the inflatable Bungee Run. Think you’re the best eater at Soldier Field? Prove it in the bacon-eating contest!

Bacon and Beer Classic Ticket Options:

  • General Admission – $69 (unlimited bacon dishes + beer, music, games, and more)
  • Early Access Tickets – $85 (everything in GA plus entry a extra half hour before those suckers)
  • Very Important Porker – $99 (one hour early admission, exclusive dishes and beer, make-it-yourself bar, and more)

All tickets include a souvenir Bacon and Beer Classic tasting glass. There are afternoon and evening sessions, so check out the times and get tickets here.

I’ve been named one of the official judges for the event, so you’ll definitely see me wandering around stuffing my face during the afternoon session. I’ll be helping give out awards for Best Overall Dish, Best Sweet Dish, and Best Savory Dish as well as awards for different beers. It’s a rough job, but someone’s gotta do it!
